Occasionally, journals that accept my poems also ask for an audio recording. This has come to be a delight, as it motivates me to return to a poem I may have written six, eight, or even twelve months ago, and encounter its words slowly and thoughtfully. Lines I spent hours poring over in a past life, a past self, now rise to greet me and remind me what they know.
